Hi, My skimmer SRO 5000-EXT overflows when I start it. I have it outside the sump. I set at maximum water height to begin with, it dribbles out of the exit pipe but overflows very quick when the recirc pump is started. I tried setting the water at minimum level on the skimmer and nothing is coming out of the exit pipe, when I start the recirc pump it overflows into the cup very quickly and shoots thru the hole in the top of the cup and still nothing is coming out the exit tube.(YES the VALVE is OPEN all the way> visually confirmed) What am I doing wrong,. I am not sure about the high of the output adjusting valve, is there a advantage to keep the piping as close to the base as possible. I made mine ( 6") higher to clear my sump wall so I didn't have to make a stand to clear the sump wall.

Yes, if you raise the exit valve, you will raise the water level inside the skimmer. You should never make the valve pipe higher but instead raise the skimmer above your sump so the water tickles down to the sump via gravity with no obstruction or resistance.
