I purchased the replacement pump from you in may of 2017. I'm having problems with the pump starting when plugged in. If I put the impeller in the "right" position, close it up and test it, it works. If I unplug it and replug it it doesnt. No visible damage or obstructions. What's causing this?

It doesn't seem to be able to get past the initial impedance of startup. If I nudge the impeller it works.

As I look further at the pump, is there supposed to be a part in the cap that the tip of the impeller is supposed to fit in?

Yes there is! What you need to do is go down to your fish stuff storage area and look into the box that's labeled, or eventually be labeled.. . "I'm not sure where this goes but it looks important" I found it, put back in and it works. Still a bit of a pain working the air out of the pump upon initial start up. Thank you wise forum.
