It seems to me that the air tube that runs into the adjusting pipe is quite long...Can this be cut to better fit

The air tube should be just to the top of the wedge valve but never should be attached to the cap of the wedge valve. I know some videos out there instruct you to do so but that is incorrect. The air tube should be threaded upwards into the wedge valve and it should be all the way up but not attached to the cap.
