This is my first protein skimmer. I am a little concerned the cup may overflow, other than unplugging the skimmer at night how can I ensure it won’t overflow and flood my basement?

Just make sure that the cup is at the highest point and as with all HOB skimmers, you need to check the cup everyday and if it is full, empty it out. The skimmer will not stop running when the cup is full. It is the customer's responsibility to ensure that the cup is not full to prevent overflows.
