Reef Octopus Classic 110-INT: Connecting pipe doesn't fit into output pipe from skimmer

Earlier this year I purchased a Reef Octopus Classic 110-INT for a new tank that I'm setting up. I just got around to installing the skimmer today, and the pipe that's supposed to connect the gate valve to the skimmer won't fit into the output elbow from the skimmer at all. It fits into the gate valve very snugly, but no matter how I angle it, contort it, or try to force it, it simply won't go into the elbow on the skimmer. It looks like it should fit in, but the elbow seems to be just slightly too small to accept the pipe. Is there anything I can do to actually make the pipe fit?

Here are the parts in question. I couldn't get a good picture of it not fitting into the output pipe on the skimmer body. It looks like it should fit, but no amount of manipulation will actually get the pipe to go any further than the lip of the output pipe.

Please submit a private ticket so one of our reps can get private information and send you replacement parts. Please do not forget to include proof of purchase and the serial number on the back of the pump.
