IceCap 1K

I am considering a 1K for a 10 gal frag tank. I plan to install the pump vertically on the back glass behind a structure. I can provide a pic if it helps. My plan is to run the pump in reverse gyre mode with the flow changing from right to left, parallel to the back glass. Since it is such a small tank I will most likely need to run it at 50% speed or something like that. I just don't want to blast the lps frags with to much.

1. Does this sound possible regarding flow direction and speed level?

2. How far does the pump protrude from the glass? I need to make sure it will fit behind the structure.

3. I know that you need a set different of cages to run the 3K in reverse gyre mode. Is it the same for the 1K? If so I can't seem to find it anywhere.
thanks--

The 1k gyre installed on a tank sticks out from the glass about 3 1/4 inches
The total length is @ 9 inches so running it vertical in a standard 10 gallon tank will work without substrate or very thin sand bed.
Running it at 50% may or may not be too much for your particular application but the good new is you can change this via the controller to dial in your desired flow.
The standard A & B cages/ impellers can operate in the reverse gyre mode but as we know it will only create a very gentle flow with the props running reverse.
You would have to purchase a separate set of impellers to get another A and B. You would then change out the blades to run either Two A's OR two B's (impellers) So this would give you half the pump each direction while the other half creates the gentle flow.
Hope this helps answer your questions, Thank you for the interest in our products and Good luck.

Thank you for the quick response, and the information. I must be blind but I can't seem to locate these anywhere... I see them for the 3k but not the 1k...

Your welcome, Our website has information on the units along with recommended tanks size of 20 to 50 gallons.
I took the measurements directly off of a pump running in our test tank for you.
Being a new product I'm sure in time there will be more information added to the product in time.

Is there anything else I can help you with today ?

Thanks Michael I am sorry I wasn't clear in my last message. I can find the 1K pump, I am having trouble locating the additional set of impellers (and cages if needed) to achieve reverse gyre mode for the 1K. I see them for the 3K but not the 1K.

And just so this is clear in my head... Let's say I have a 1K with the 2 A's or 2 B's installed, and I'm running the pump in reverse gyre mode. Does the flow then alternate from a strong left flow to a strong right flow during the cycle?

Yes I believe we are on the same page.
With two A's OR two B impellers installed and running the reverse gyre mode what will happen is when the pump is running in Forward mode one side / impeller will be pushing water strong at the desired speed while the other side will spin same direction and only provide gentle flow as its blades are facing the wrong direction at this time.
Once the pump changes to reverse then the ''other'' side / impeller will now be pushing strong water flow at the desired speed and the other will be gentle until it changes back to forward and so on.
If you are using the pump with one A and one B like from factory and using reverse gyre mode then it will pump water strong in forward and be very gentle in reverse.

Parts such as the impellers are available at the moment, we are working on getting our website updated to reflect this.

Excellent, you have answered all my questions! One last one...can I order the parts we discussed from Coralvue even though they are not listed yet? None of the major vendors seem to show them either.

Thanks for your help on this, much appreciated.

Hi Michael, I am finally ready to order the pump and parts needed as we discussed. I assume I need both the directional cages and the propellers to get equal flow in both directions?

The parts are now on the website here is the links https://www.coralvue.com/icecap-1k-propellers https://www.coralvue.com/icecap-1k-directional-cage-set-a-b

This will give you the ability to run two A propellers and cages or two B's since you have a set already with your 1k.
You can alternate two A's and two B's between cleanings if you want / choose.
