Cleaning Gyre

I generally clean my gyre once a month which is complete disassembly, cleaning , and replacing worn parts. I've noticed that the shaft bushings will freeze to the shaft essentially rendering them useless. Could I just do weekly baths in some acid ( vinegar, citric, etc) and let the pump.run for a while? 15 minutes? Wonder if this would prevent the freezing/ binding of the moving parts? If this would be a good way to keep the Gyre innards clean then which type of acid would be acceptable?

Yes, you can take the pump apart and then soak it in vinegar or citric acid and run it for a while to clean it. No problem.

Thank you Carlos. What I meant was is it good practice if I simply take the pump from my tank, rinse it, and put it into an acid solution without disassembly and let it run in it. My thi king is that this would prevent calcium or other build up inside the pump if done weekly. That way, when I disassemble monthly, or less frequently, the wear on bushings would be minimal.
