I have a 50g cube that I'm setting up and want to include a Gyre. I'm running the Ethereal and have the ICV6, and am also running an Apex controller. I'm trying to decide whether I need to buy the whole Gyre setup (pump/controller) or just the stand-alone pump that's listed for sale and had a couple of questions:

1) If I want to control the pump through Apex can I buy just the 230 pump and IceCap module? If so, are there other cords/power adapters that I need?

2) In terms of functionality, is the Gyre controller preferable to the Apex?

3) Alternatively, is there any way to control the Gyre through the ICV6?

Thanks

You need a controller to run the Gyre 200 series pumps. The stand alone pump does not come with power supply and it needs to be connected to the gyre Advanced Controller. It cannot be connected to any other controller.

1) Yes, you can control the XF230 pump with the IceCap module but you will still need to purchase a power supply. (http://www.coralvue.com/maxspect-gyre-power-supply)
2) That is a question with a subjective answer. Depends on who is using it and what they prefer. People that don't want to bather with intricate programming will go with the Advanced Controller.
3) Not at this time.
