NWB-110 Not Sucking in Enough Air Through Venturi

Hi,

I was wondering if someone could help me. I have the NWB-110 (about 1 - 1 1/2 years old). I took it out of my sump a few weeks ago to give the pump a vinegar bath (I do this every 3 months or so), but when I put it back together, barely any bubbles are being released into the skimmer body.

With the venturi off the pump, it's pulling water into the skimmer body as it normally does. However, as soon as I screw the venturi back on, the water pressure drops significantly for a min and then goes back to how it was before, but there are barely any bubbles coming out of the pump.

I've cleaned out the venturi thoroughly (also inspected it for cracks, which there are none), as well as the air line going from the silencer (no cracks in the acrylic either) to the pump, so it's not that. I also inspected the impeller, which looks fine. In addition, I've talked to the owner of my lfs and he's stumped, so he suggested I contact you guys to see if you know what is causing this to happen.

The only thing I did notice, is that there is not a gasket in the venturi. Should there be one? I do not remember ever seeing one, but I suppose it's possible it fell out while I was cleaning it and didn't see it. If there should be one, would it be possible to get a new gasket shipped to me? Here's a link to the part I am referring to: http://www.coralvue.com/otp-pump-air-intake-venturi

Please let me know as soon as possible. I have a mixed reef (predominantly SPS/zoas), and have not had a working skimmer in over 2 weeks, so I'm worried about my coral.

Thanks!

Jason

Have you tried removing the pump from the skimmer and running it on a 5 gal bucket of salt water? See if you can recreate the issue with only the pump, venturi and air hose.

Yes, it does the same thing whether it is connected to the skimmer body or not.

How long is the warranty good for?

1 year on the body of the skimmer. Warranty on the pump depends on the pump itself. If you have an OTP pump, then the warranty is 1 year. If you have an Aquatrance pump, then the pump body is 2 years but there is only a 1-year warranty on the impeller assembly.
