I have been running a reef octopus classic 150 skimmer since a couple days after christmas. It's not collecting like I see all the other ones I see people have. It will do good sometimes and bad other times. It sits in 8 inches of water which is what instructions said to keep it in. It isn't overflowing just not making any bubbles.

What size tank (without a sump) are you running the skimmer? Also, what type of bioload do you have? Heavy, medium or light?

It's a 75 and yes been running for almost a month. I would say light right now but will be going up. Only have 2 clowns, engineer goby, mandarin, 2 damsils, snowflake eel, clean up crew with shrimp Conches snails and hermits, brittle star and scallop.

The CLSC-150INT on a 75 gal tank may be too big of a skimmer. The skimmer needs a minimum of 110 gal of heavy bioload water or a max of 210 gal of light bioload. For a system like yours, I would have recommended the CLSC-110INT instead.

Please remember that the skimmers will not collect 24/7. They will only collect when there are organic compounds to collect. So having a skimmer not collect 24/7 is normal.

Here is a short article on how to properly dial in a skimmer after it is broken in...

Okay should I consider getting a different one or just keep this one for when my bio load goes up? I was recommended to get something 2 times bigger than the gallons in tank.

As you increase your bioload, the skimmer will start to work. Just remember that you may have to keep the water level inside the skimmer a little higher than recommended to make up for the reduced water volume. Also, you may want to lower the skimmer so it is deeper water to also make up for the water volume.

Okay where should I keep water level at in skimmer and sump? Sump can only hold 8 inches of water right now and I have the level in skimmer where the neck and cup meet.

Okay so bio load will help a lot? I don't need to get a different skimmer do I?

No, as you start to add more bioload and feed, the skimmer you have will work.

I also have another question on the air breather that the white tube connects to from pump. It has 2 holes on it and one is plugged. Do I remove the plug for more air or leave it? It is louder without the plug in also.

The silencer works by having one of the two intakes capped. If you leave both intakes open, the skimmer will work but it will be louder. If you cap both intakes, then you will choke the skimmer and it won't work.
