Check to make sure the impeller, air hose and venturi (air intake port) are all clean and free of any calcium deposits of salt creep. If you have an OTP pump or aquatrance please make sure that the ceramic shaft pulls away from the impeller magnet and in one piece. If the pump is submerged in too deep of water it may be difficult for the pump to initiate a siphon. To test this you can simply blow into the airline while the pump is in operation and see if a siphon is formed. Lowering the water level or raising the protein skimmer should solve the start up the issue.

Could possibly be a bad magnet impeller and needs to be replaced. We find that magnets tend to lose their magnification over time and may need replacing.
