I have been running a reef octopuss bio-pellet reactor for about three months now and my water is really cloudy. I have a 180 gallon tank with a 75 gallon sump. Reef octopuss protein skimmer diablo series 200. The out put of the reactor is right next-to the input of the skimmer. The

The pellets have colonized and a stingy milky substance is coming out of the reactor. Normal I think. I don't have a lot of flow going thru the reactor thinking it might stay in the reactor. Questions are can I turn off the reactor? Will it b poisons to do that? Can I leave off and turn it on when my nitrate levels start to rise? Do I have to little flow? Instructions said they will colonize. YouTube vidieos show the bio-pellets really tumbling. Instructions say different.

What brand of biopellets are you using? You may want to remove some of the pellets and do a decent water change to help dilute the food source. I would also add some fresh activated charcoal. The cloudiness should be gone in a day or two. You want to have the pellets sizzling no dancing like a lot of the videos on the web. When you look at the pellets you should insure that visually you see water moving around the pellets.
