1) Not pointless but you miss out on the strengths of the pump and the controller when you are only running one pump.

Carlos, thank you for replying so quickly. I did see the directions to update the firmware when I was looking at other posts. So there is no way to see if my new pump arrived to me with the latest firmware installed, other than what you sent me above?

When you first power up the controller, it will display a firmware version when it first turn on. That is the only way to tell which version is installed on the controller.
