Hi my Skimmer for the last 2 months is producing poor Skim, it seems like it doesn't want to foam up the neck. The water just wants to kind of sizzle on top causing it either to produce no skim or overflow the collection cup. I have soaked and cleaned the entire thing with vinegar, and made sure nothing is obstructing the air lines. it sits in about 6.5" of water, any suggestions? Pump maybe ?

Please lower the skimmer so it is sitting in between 7.5" to 8" of water. Right now you are running it too shallow.

The skimmer is rated for 500 gallons, not including the sump so your system is too small for that skimmer. The skimmer will pull some skimmate but then won't pull anything as there are not enough organics for the skimmer to work properly.

Yah , well that's the skimmer coralvue recommended. I phoned and asked if I should go with a sro-3000 or sro-5000. And the guy I talked to I think his name was Jeremy but I may be wrong. Recommended this skimmer because it was in between. Also I do believe the rating on this skimmer was lower when it first came out.

Yes it was just checked. Skimmer was rated for 400 gallons when I purchased it. So seems like the right skimmer at 400g rating?

You need to have the bioload to run that skimmer. You can go with the 3000 or the 5000 but if you go with the higher skimmer, you need to have the bioload. That means you feed your tank more and you have biopellets. So yes, you can use the 5000 as Jeremy stated but you need the bioload to do so.

Skimmer will not work if there are no organic (or not enough) to work. If the bioload is not there, the skimmer will not work.
